Accrediting Commission for Schools

Reflections: Progress Report Review

Joanne Cacicedo | Coordinator, Northern California, Accrediting Commission for Schools, WASC

Reading candidate, mid-cycle, and progress reports enables WASC to note the progress a school is experiencing since its previous accreditation visit. Often times these reports become mini-self-studies that include historical school background, pictures of the facility, the entire staff, and numerous graphs which expand the report to an overwhelming number of pages whereas the reports should focus on the significant changes that have occurred, the improvement of the school’s programs and operations to support student learning, and the refinement of the action plan as needed to assure the entire school community that the school continues to be a trustworthy institution of learning. WASC hopes that these condensed reports serve as an interim springboard to the school’s next and more expansive accreditation school evaluation.
