Shanine Coats represents the California Department of Education (CDE) on the ACS WASC Commission. She was appointed Director for the Curriculum Frameworks and Instructional Resources Division at the California Department of Education in October 2019. For over 15 years, Shanine has understood the importance of high-quality education to meet the needs of each and every student as she is, and always will be, a teacher. She was born and raised in Sacramento, where she attended public schools and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies and Multiple-Subject Teaching Credential from California State University, Sacramento. During her years as an elementary school teacher, she continued her education, earning a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies along with a Preliminary Administrative Services Credential.
Ms. Coats has served in various capacities at the California Department of Education. She has worked as the lead investigator in matters of state and federal program compliance, Education Administrator for the Deputy Superintendent, acting Director for the Improvement and Accountability Division, and most recently the Federal Policy Liaison. Shanine believes in putting students first and uses her breadth of experience to make connections between state and federal programs, curriculum, instruction, assessment, and accountability as a whole to impact educational outcomes for California's diverse student population.
