Dr. Ron Carruth is the Superintendent of the El Dorado Union High School District and is currently in his third year on the ACS WASC Commission representing the Association of California School Administrators. Ron is committed to preparing future generations of students to be academically prepared and economically competitive in our world. He has worked over 30 years in K-12 education and is in his 12th year as a Superintendent. Dr. Carruth has served as the president of California City Superintendents Association and is the past president of the University of La Verne Doctoral Association. Ron has been recognized as the ACSA Marcus Foster State Administrator of the Year for Administrator Excellence and previously was the ACSA State Administrator of the Year for Instruction. He has served as a high school teacher, coach, administrator, high school principal, and as an Assistant Superintendent prior to becoming a Superintendent. Ron served as Superintendent of the Whittier City School District for ten years prior to coming to El Dorado. He has been engaged in WASC visits since the early 1990s. Previously Ron chaired numerous WASC visitations in California and has served on teams in Hawaii, China, SAR Hong Kong, Thailand, Japan, and Vietnam. In addition he has served on the ACS WASC Executive Committee as Chair of Nominating and currently serves as Chair of Finance.
Dr. Carruth lives in Placerville, CA along with his wife Laurie. He enjoys being active on his property, cooking, and loves the Sierra Foothills wine region. Ron believes that the Focus on Learning criteria help facilitate outstanding conversations about student learning and increase educational outcomes for students and that mixing local findings with other educational leaders has a profound impact on strengthening all schools.
