Gregory Franklin, Chairperson
ACS WASC Chairperson Dr. Gregory A. Franklin represents the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA). Dr. Franklin is the superintendent of the Tustin Unified School District. Dr. Franklin is passionate about preparing all students to succeed in the global workforce through rigorous and engaging instruction, real-world applications, and the integration of technology. Among his accomplishments, Dr. Franklin was named California and Orange County Superintendent of the Year for 2014. His schools have won several Golden Bell Awards from the California School Boards Association for innovative educational programs. USC recognized Dr. Franklin with an alumni service award for his contributions as chair of the USC Rossier Dean’s Superintendent Advisory Group. He received a Teacher of the Year award from Junior Achievement.
Dr. Franklin started his career as an economics teacher and athletic coach in Santa Ana before entering administration. He was a high school principal for eight years and was superintendent in Los Alamitos before moving to Tustin Unified. He lives in Brea with his wife Debbie — they have three adult daughters. His hobbies are golf, grilling and reading. He is honored to be a member of the Commission and to help serve schools with their improvement processes.
